Default Rangers Forward Line Season 1961 - 1962

Looking for a bit of information. I first started actually attending Ibrox for matches in 1961 (going on for ten years old).

The goalkeeper, defence and 'midfield' in the team of that season rolls easily off the tongue, but not so easily the front five. I can't remember if this was due to chopping and changing, or players leaving/arriving, but the front five didn't seem as settled as the players behind them. What would you say was the recognised front five that season. I'm putting a photographic collage of famous Rangers Teams, including my 'first' watched, ECWC winners, Gallant Pioneers etc. Whichever 1961 - 1962 front line I recognise or jogs my memory most will be the one I use.

Broadly: Scott, McMillan, Millar, Brand, Wilson.

Brand was sometimes displaced by Baird; Wilson by Matthew or Hume.

    Hope that jogs some memories.

As mentioned above, that was the season that Henderson made the position his own, by the latter part of the season.

Over the course of the 61-62 season Alex Scott got 40 Starts (11 Goals), with Henderson getting 23 Starts (2 Goals).

Ian McMillan got 45 Starts (10 Goals).

Jimmy Millar got 42 Starts (26 Goals)

Ralph Brand got 57 Starts (40 Goals)

Davy Wilson got 53 Starts (29 Goals)

    Others that appeared
    John Greig 16 (8 Goals)
    Max Murray 10 (5 Goals)
    Jim Christie 8 (8 Goals)

The following season (62-63) Rangers had THREE attackers all score 30 plus goals each, in a single season.

Jimmy Millar scored 43 Goals in 50 Games. This included hat tricks in all four competitions. (SD1, SC, LC, ECWC)
Ralph Brand scored 37 Goals in 52 Games, which included scoring in all 7 Scottish Cup ties (12 Goals)
Davy Wilson scored 32 Goals in 50 Games.

I believe this is a record that stood for over 50 years, until Messi, Saurez and Neymar surpassed them in 2015-16.
