Thread: Mark Hateley interview for Milan TV last year...

The similarities between him and McCoist are striking.

Legends as players, complete disappointments as people and club idols since hanging up their boots.

    Goal at Leeds.
    Title header v the sheep.
Header from just inside the box at pittodrie.
Header v Marseilles from 10 inches off the deck.
Left footed nutmeg on the Aberdeen goalie at the piggery for the treble.
These are the goals that spring to mind but really Celtic & especially Aberdeen should have hired a hitman to take him out! Hateley terrorised them.

One of my all time favourite Rangers players.

Being associated with the Easdales has definitely harmed his standing though.

The best header of the ball ive ever seen, he could literally pick his spot with his head and was really brave and put his head in anywhere

He really was one of the greatest front men we have ever had, it's that simple. The big man was a phenomenal striker.

We had Mark Hateley in Blackpool at The Gallant Pioneer on Saturday and he was really good.

He was outstanding. A beast in the air but he was excellent on the ground, had a great turn of speed and a fantastic left peg.

The complete striker and how Graham Taylor ignored him when Lineker was done and he played Alan Smith instead is beyond me.

Posted this before but my late Dad had been watching Rangers since 1924 and said Hateley was the best striker he'd ever seen, and he'd seen a few.

Definitely the most complete centre forward I've ever seen play for us. Seen him recently in boots at Craigmarloch while waiting on a prescription and bottled it to ask him for a photo, instead I just nodded and I got a nod back. Surprisingly slight in build now with long skinny bow legs, is hard to imagine how he terrorised defenders twenty years ago. Brilliant, brilliant player for us.
    Doc Martins?

Same one for me. Very like McWSweggans against Marseilles - they lobbed the keeper!

I feel he was done a bit of a disservice for his dealings with the Easdales.

At the time the team was shit on the park and Hateley was just about the only ex-player prepared to put the good of the club above his friendship with McCoist and attempt to influence change. The fact the club was run by scumbags wasn't his doing. Like every other employee at the time he ultimately reported to the Easdales, so if he was going to be an agent for change that was the only avenue open to him. He could hardly report back to Dave King.

The impatience was around - he was given plenty stick. A lot of it was to do with knocking us back for Monaco though when he left Milan.

He had an absolute stormer throughout that whole CL campaign. Him and McCall had the tournament of their lives.
