View Full Version : Lee Camp

Rangers boss Ally McCoist is ready to pull off a transfer coup by signing Northern Ireland keeper Lee Camp.
Free agent Camp was with Norwich City in the Premier League for the second half of last season but is currently looking for a club.
And McCoist wants Camp to sign his Scottish Second Division sleeping giants - with the chance of becoming number one.
Camp may be open to the surprise approach as he has family in Scotland, with his children living in the country.
Huddersfield were also interested in Camp as competition for Alex Smithies, but the chance to play for Rangers and be part of their revival may swing the deal.

Ally - can we just drop the goalkeeping panic please.

We need a decent keeper to be first choice -Bell.

We then need a reasonable (and cheap) one who is prepared to sit on the bench (maybe Gallacher)

Then we just need a young lad as third choice (Smith)

The obsession with keepers for the level we are playing at is uneccessary.

UnionRangers

Thre goalkeeping position is getting blown out of proportion.

For the level we will be playing at for 95% of the season you could stick a cardboard cutout in goal and we'd still romp the league.

Bell first choice and the a couple of cheaper younger keepers as back up. That is all we need ffs.

Plus, we also have an excellent young keeper coming through in the shape of Liam Kelly.

Genuinely not convinced that another keeper would be top of my shopping list right now.

IMO Ally massively over exaggerates the standard of opposition that we will be playing week in week out. His interview with Traynor backs this up.

I'm all for bringing in a decent quality of player - but in terms of goalkeeping we shouldn't be worried about that at all.

Ally needs to calm down and concentrate on nailing a couple of CH's if we have a free reign to bring in players. Keepers are not a priority ffs !!

He's said he wants Gallacher to go out on loan and gain first team experience.

I know, but surely it would make more sense to keep a hold of him, utilise him in cup games etc, and let him get first team experience at Rangers? Rather than coughing up another unnecessary salary.

Don't see the problem with another GK being signed to be honest. (If of course we can afford the wage!)

Gallacher getting a full season on loan will do him good. Remember what it did for McGregor? He's hardly played any first team football and at his age he really should have by now. Big Jim has said he would have played a large part of the last few months of the last season but unfortunately got injured. Lets say he stays right, and Bell doesn't get an injury or his form is great and doesn't deserve to be dropped that will be ANOTHER season where Gallacher doesn't play.

I'm sure everyone will admit that last season certain members of the team knew they were untouchable. If they put in a lazy performance or had a stinker, they wouldn't be dropped. Having strength in depth will hopefully stop this from happening. An experienced keeper to challenge Bell is fine by me and makes complete sense.

would this guy not command a wage comparable to bell?

personally think this is unnecessary given the level we play at. think we would be far better off giving a young lad a chance or looking to bring in an experienced older keeper on a 12month contract on a low wage

No point in spunking wages away on Camp. I do rate him as a Gk but there is no need for camp AND bell ffs. If we were competing in Europe and the SPL i would be happy with both on the book but for div 2 it is another added wage we could do without.

BroomloanWATP
23-07-2013, 16:45
We wouldn't be paying him more than Bell to sit on the bench. I don't know what he is like as a goalie as I have never watched him, but I have always been impressed by Bell and I would have been happy to sign him in the SPL. I assume Camp is better then him by a distance?

bell will not be raging, he signed at the time whjen Alexander looked like staying and was more than willing to accept the challenge. 2 senior goalies pushing each others performance levels. Would it be too naive to think that Greegsy performances were in part down to having an excellent understudy in Alexander, World class performances to keep your place in the team ahead of him.

Cammy Bell signs pre-contract agreement to join Rangers

Kilmarnock goalkeeper Cammy Bell has struck a pre-contract agreement with Rangers to tie him to Ibrox until 2017. The 26-year-old agreed terms with Ally McCoist’s side after rejecting a five-year deal at Rugby Park.

The deal, understood to be worth £8,000 a week, will commence on September 1, when Rangers’ transfer embargo will be lifted.
http://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/spfl/the-rumour-mill-cammy-bell-to-rangers-kris-commons-blames-teammate-for-juve-slump-1-2788792

The Kilmarnock goalkeeper has been heavily linked with a Bosman move to Rangers once the Ibrox club's registration embargo is lifted on September 1. Some reports claim he has already signed a pre-contract worth £8,000-a-week, but the 26-year-old revealed last night even he didn't know where he will be playing next season.

Well it certainly looks like Ally wants to spunk the money we saved on releasing Alexander on another goalkeeper - that much looks obvious.

Lee Camp has been shocking over the last few seasons and we shouldn't be buying players who are on the decline - especially not on expensive players that we don't really need ... but hey ho.

If there is money there McCoist will spend every last penny of it.

Agreed, living down here, I know how poorly thought of he is in general, even amongst some Forest fans. He is an arrogant prick who gets his old man to fight his battles for him and will throw the rattle out the pram as soon as he gets dropped for a sustained period.

Good keeper, but he'll bring down team morale to feed his own ego and for that matter, Ally, I'm out.
