1876 - Moses McNeil became the first Rangers player to earn International honours when he was selected for the Scotland side to face Wales at Hamilton Crescent. Scotland won 4-0.
1882 - Aston Villa 3 Rangers 2 (Ramsay,Untraced) - Friendly (4,000)
The arrival of Rangers at Perry Barr, then home to Aston Villa was suffcient to draw a crowd of 4,000 to see the home side overcome a 2-0 deficit and win the game 3-2,although it has to be said there were a number of debatable refereeing decisions which favoured the home side. After the game, arrangements were made for Villa to visit Rangers' Kinning Park the following month
1893 - St.Mirren 2 Rangers 2 (J.McPherson,Dick) - Scottish League
1905 - Rangers 2 (Speedie,Robertson) Celtic 0 - Scottish Cup semi-Final (36,000)
With Celtic ultimately winning the League (after a play-off against Rangers),Rangers decimated by injuries and the semi-final tie being played at Celtic Park,Celtic started as firm favourites. But not for the last time the form book got turned upside down,as Rangers went about their business in a professional manner, quelling Celtic's potent strike force and creating significant chances of their own.Goals from Findlay Speedie and Jacky Robertson had seemingly won the game anyway, but ten minutes from the end, with Jimmy Quinn of Celtic ordered off, part of the crowd of 36,000 poured on to the pitch in an attempt to get the match abandoned. They succeeded too,but Celtic immediately conceded the tie and Rangers were through to their third consecutive cup final
1911 - Morton 2 Rangers 2 (Reid,Bowie) - Scottish League Division One (10,000)
1914 - Rangers 5 (Reid 3,Duncan,Bennett) Ayr United 2 - Scottish League Division One (10,000)
1918 - Walter 'Darkie' Tull was killed in action at the Second Battle of the Somme in France, his actions earning him a posthumous recommendation for a Military Cross (he also won British War and Victory medals). He is buried at Arras in France, where his name is inscribed on the War Cemetery Memorial
1922 - Rangers 2 (Henderson,Archibald Pen) Partick Thistle 0 - Scottish Cup Semi-Final (60,000)
1924 - Clyde 2 Rangers 2 (Wilkinson,McGregor) - Friendly
1925 - Raith Rovers 0 Rangers 4 (Henderson 3,Archibald) - Scottish League Division One
1933 - St.Johnstone 0 Rangers 2 (J.Smith 2) - Scottish League Division One (12,000)
1940 - Rangers 2 (Thornton,Galloway) Partick Thistle 2 - Scottish Regional League Western Division (12,000)
1944 - Rangers 2 (Duncanson 2) Hearts 0 - Southern League Cup Section A (40,000)
1950 - Queen of the South 1 Rangers 2 (Thornton,Williamson) - Scottish League Division One (18,000)
1961 - Rangers 2 (Scott,Murray) Motherwell 2 - Scottish League Division One (42,000)
1967 - Rangers 1 (A.Smith) Hibernian 0 - Scottish League Division One (30,000)
1970 - Rangers 3 (Penman 2,Johnston) Hearts 2 - Scottish League Division One (14,490)
1972 - Rangers 1 (Jackson) Morton 2 - Scottish League Division One (20,000)
1978 - Celtic 2 Rangers 0 - Scottish Premier Division (51,000)
1981 - GD Estoril Praia 0 Rangers 1 (Jardine) - Friendly (4,000)
1984 - Rangers 3 (McCoist 3 1Pen) Celtic 2 - Scottish League Cup Final (66,369)
The re-appointment of Jock Wallace had led to an improvement on the field, culminating in a run to the final of the League Cup.There, almost inevitably, were Celtic, but Rangers took command early on and went into a two goal lead thanks to Ally McCoist.Eventually Celtic pulled themselves together and equalised in the last minute with a penalty, sending the game into extra time. The first period of extra time was almost over when McCoist was bundled over for a Rangers penalty.McCoist took the kick himself saw his effort blocked by Bonner but reacted quickest to pounce on the ball and knock it home for his hat-trick and the winner
1989 - Hibernian 0 Rangers 1 (Drinkell) - Scottish Premier Division (23,321)
2006 - Rangers 1 (Kyrgiakos) Dunfermline Athletic 0 - Scottish Premier League (49,017)
2012 - Rangers 3 (Aluko,Little,Wallace) Celtic 2 - Scottish Premier League (50,191)

1984: Great day the atmosphere in the Rangers end was amazing.

1978: A bad result on a really wet day. Oddly enough I remember the IAAF World Cross Conutry Championships taking place that day in Bellahouston Park !

Great 1984 pics above.

1972 - Kind of summed up the inconsistent season we were having. Beating Torino on the Wednesday in the CWC QF then losing at home to Morton on the Saturday

Colin Jackson opened the scoring for Rangers that day.

Stevie Chalmers, previously of a different colour of hoops equalized.

Morton's winner came from a Colin Jackson own goal ... he was an excellent player for many , many, years - but just how many own goals did he score?

I know he did it twice against the scum - with 1979 being the hardest to take :(

I prefer to remember his goal in the 1979 League Cup Final :)

A really great servant to the club over many years.

Their end was quite noticeably quieter than ours ... it was certainly quieter after the final whistle !

As I said above this was my first game against Celtic and have attended about 70 since I reckon.

It is the only one off the top of my head that has not been a sell-out, more or less.

Was there any particular reason as to why they had so many empty spaces?

It was one of the first Sunday Cup Finals I think, were they all in the chapel?

Serious question, btw...

I got Rangers at 5/2 this time last year. Can't believe that was a year ago, I've only just recovered from it.

STV reporter in post-match interview...

"Were you confident when the game went into extra-time?"

Jock Wallace...

"Growl, I was confident before the game started son!"

1984 - that was during the time Billy McBungle said celtic got nothing from refs who all cheated for Rangers.

We were 2-1 up in the 93rd minute when they got a penalty. Bob Valentine must have forgot his orders. Again.

Thank goodness after that for Roy Aitken and his brainless ability to give away stupid penalties. His stupidity won us the League Cup in 1984 and 1986, both times for blatant fouls in the box with not long to go.
