Simple really...who was better?

Ronaldinho . He was unstoppable for a few years and won everything he possibly could. A genius

Be really surprised if this isn't a landslide. Rivaldo was brilliant, but Ronaldinho brilliant.

People always seem to go for the more recent option. I think Ronaldinho was more skillful, but in terms of effectiveness and what they brought to a team? Rivaldo by miles.

Rivaldo scored the best hat-trick I have ever seen against Valencia...

I enjoyed watching Ronaldinho more though... Waste of a talent the way he ended up...

Ronaldinho was the best player on the planet for 2.5 years. During that time he dragged Barcelona from also-rans, to the best team in Europe.

I don't remember people applauding Rivaldo's genius at the Bernabeu.

I've gone for Ronaldinho. A genius.

It's a tough one though.

Is he really a waste of talent? Played for top European teams till he was 30 then went home, won leagues at Barca and Milan, won the Champions League with Barca and won the World Cup, as well as twice World player of the year.

Not a bad way to end up!!

My lasting memory of Rivaldo is that dive at the World Cup when he got the ball booted at him, which is a shame because he was a fantastically talented footballer.
It'll be Ronaldinho for me.

Both capable of the absolutely sublime at times.

Has to be Ronaldinho though, really was a cut above for a period of his time at Barca.

Plus any excuse to post this video:

Might not be everyone's favourite goal of his, but the fact it was a fan video makes it that little bit more special.

It's a lot closer than the poll suggests but I'd agree with the majority that Ronaldinho was better. Hard to separate them though.

Ronaldinho for me! Unstoppable on his day and simply one of my favourite players ever. Would always get excited to watch him play.

Rivaldo and Ronaldo (R9) were my two favourite players growing up, although between Rivaldo & Ronaldinho it's a really hard choice IMO.

Rivaldo was unstoppable in the late 90's, however when Ronaldinho was at his peak he could do things with the ball that nobody else could or can to this day, a genius.

I'll go as far as to say that Ronaldinho is the most outrageously gifted footballer I've ever seen, and I include both Maradona and Messi in that.

Much forgotten fact that Ronaldinho was the best player in the world from 2005 to 2008.

He turned Barca into champions and did some unbelievable things along the way.

2004-2006 perhaps.

By season 2006/07 his star was beginning to wane at an alarming rate.

At only 21 i have seen some top players in the flesh, even the current Spain team but the only player i was geniunly excited to see was Ronaldinho. His goal at Chelsea is one of my favourite goals ever.

Ronaldinho by some distance, top player, shame the drink and partying got to him, with dicipline he could have became a true great.

For 2 years ronaldinho was playing the sort of football that had him being seen as the best player ever to play the game.
His off the field life style put paid to that but for 2 years he was doing things even messi could only dream of.

1 being actually scoring against Chelsea

Rivaldo.

Ronaldinho was a tricky bastard, but Rivaldo contributed more even if he was less flashy.

Ronaldinho was better, not a great deal in it mind you.

Ronaldinho could change a game in a second, he had everything in his game, free-kicks, trickery, finishing - he had it all. Ronaldinho probably played a massive part in the development of Messi as well I'd imagine.

His goal against Chelsea was unbelievable.

30 goals in 52 games.

Rivaldo for me but only just. Ronaldinho was a fantastic player for a fair few years, but Rivaldo was world class for much longer than Ronaldinho was

Rivaldo for me, just. Both reached scintillating peaks where they were clearly the best in the world. Ronaldinho's inability to hold his peak beyond 2005/06 aged 25 counts against him. Had he maintained the 2004-2006 level of performance for another 2-4 seasons many would've, rightly or wrongly, considered him as the greatest ever.

People always seem to go for the more recent option. I think Ronaldinho was more skillful, but in terms of effectiveness and what they brought to a team? Rivaldo by miles.

I think the poll results are influenced by more folk seeing Barcelona (whether that's La Liga, Champions League or Youtube highlights reels) during Ronaldinho's day than Rivaldo's.

Can folk remember Rivaldo at Deportivo?

I cant but stats are decent; 21 goals in 41 games.

Yeah they're pretty good stats for a left-sided midfielder, particularly when La Liga was more balanced than it is today with a Depor team that only scored 57 all season (42 games).

Rivaldo was a bit of a weird one too.. still playing to this day I believe but was more or less done at the top level by the time he was thirty and right on the back of arguably his finest moment too.

One of the old Brazilian footballers (can't mind who) suggested Rivaldo was older than he claimed to be - which seems quite plausible given his drop-off post 2002. Although some of his goals and performances for Olympiakos were sensational, and he was playing in the top Brazilian league only last year which, given he's now pushing 41, would suggest he's closer to his mid-40s or more likely it's a load of bollox.

Both great players obviously,i was more impressed with Rivaldo, with his roon the corner to get to the same spot style of ba play, would either get a place on the 1970 team bench though?
