View Full Version : Great days out spoiled by the result

Thought of this when reading the home end when Rangers were playing away thread.

When did you have a brilliant day / night / trip following Rangers only for the result to spoil it. For me it has to be the 1989 Scottish Cup Final. It was my first cup final, cracking weather, met at the Lock 27 Anniesland, several beers outside then bus over to Hampden. Bus rocking with party tunes, abusing the occasional car load of tims on the way over. Hampden full to the rafters, 77,000, then that wee rhat Joe Miller spolied it with a goal that should never have been.

One thing that sticks in my mind from that day was the entire Rangers end singing f**k yer Mo, it must have been just about the time when they thought he was signing for them before he signed for us a month or so later.

Any others? Manchester is another obvious one.

Potentially great threads spoiled by lack of responses...

Manchester 2008, obviously as you say

I was quite looking forward to Saturday there actually, result didn't ruin it completely but was on a downer for a bit afterwards

Away to Bayern Munich in 1999. A huge number of bears took over the square in Munich and had a great afternoon. Into the stadium and our support were quite simply fantastic. We witnessed our best European away performance of my lifetime (I include Lyon in that), but we just couldn't get the goal we needed. Never have I been prouder after a defeat. A particular highlight of that game was a young Barry Ferguson handing out a footballing lesson to Stefan Effenburg and Lothar Mattheus.

Motherwell beating us 2-0 at Ibrox to stop us clinching 9 in a row at home

Even Berwick a couple of weeks ago was a cracking trip, despite the 90 mins!

Barcelona a few years back as well.

Definitely, that was all geared up for party day

End thread!

Exactly, that was the biggest disappointment for me.

Most of my Euro travels, Zurich in particular, great trip, horrendous result and performance.

Countless Euro away trips. Once went 9 years without seeing Rangers win away in Europe (between Lyngby and Dynamo Moscow), but had many fantastic Euro swallys in between!
