I've said it for a couple of years now, the guy will go down as the greatest player ever when he retires.

only 23 and the amount of goals he's scored already if he keeps it up wonder how many he will get

Goal ratio is absolutely unbelievable for a player who spends a good portion of each game in the midfield.

Never seen a player with those goals AND assists numbers in one season.

So when is he going to play for Rangers

Boab Malcolm could pass the ball better though!

Those stats basically say he either scores a goal or creates a goal in every game he plays.

That is just phenominal

Check the pass for the 3rd goal at 7:34.

Good player but not the greatest. I think he'll need to put in a shift at the next two World Cups to even be considered the greatest ever.

Playing well in a fantastic team would like to see him in a different league maybe Germany or Italy but doubt that will ever happen. Burnout awaits.

Hate the argument he has to play in other leagues and do it for Argentina. Its up to him where he plays, why should he leave when he's already at the best team in the world. Argentina aren't the great team they once were but Messi is still their best player and no way performs as badly as people make out. To win things in international football you need a strong 11 not one or two standouts, unfortunately for Messi they don't have that. Also, he destroys the best players in the world every year in the Champions league which is the same/better level than the world cup!
People who believe Messi is only good because of the team mates he has clearly haven't watched him week in week out. He 'single' handedly tears teams apart which would happen no matter what shirt was on his back as its his own talent.

Normally I'd wank myself daft over that kind of pass, but with Messi nothing surprises me anymore.

Literally capable of doing anything with a ball at his feet.

why do players have to have good world cups to be considered the greatest? it's only 7 games to the final in a 3 week tournament , the champions league has a higher standard of player imo and he's done pretty well in that compition so far , i think he will go down as the greatest player of all time

With the ball at his feet Maradona is still the greatest. I'd like to see how well Messi can play after a night out with the Naples Mafia, drinking huge amounts of booze and taking copious amounts of Columbian marching powder, then not turning up to training. He won Napoli (average italian team) 2 seria A titles and a UEFA cup whilst having more than a pen-chant for drugs and alcohol. Ask me who i'd rather have in my team and its messi every time. He is a model proffesional and contributes far more to the game. Ask me who was the biggest talent, its Maradona.

People forget that there are more games than ever during a season and by the time the World Cup comes around someone like Messi who is in a succesful side may have played more than 50 games.

Nobody is on his level at the moment, It is only a matter of time before he leads Argentina to a World Cup win, of course thats just my opinion.

The argument that he needs to go to a less talented team and to a different league is so flawed, He already plays in the best league in the world and is one of the major reasons why Barca are so successful. A lot of those players have grown up together and come through the youth system which teaches the players to play the Barca way.

Some people will never accept Messi as the best ever but by the time he retires there is no doubt that when people say who is the best ever the name Messi will be beside Pele and Maradona.

You honestly cant compare him to Maradona with the game being so different now. Cant compare players of different eras imo.

He is for sure the best player of the modern era. I include Zidane and Brazilian Ronaldo in that. Brazilian Ronaldo was my other fav non gers player, but id even put him a bit ahead of him now.

I'm not claiming he's not a good player. He IS a phenomenal talent. However to lay claim to being the worlds greatest ever player I believe he will have to shine at a World Cup. He doesn't have to win the World Cup but he has to shine. Taking Maradona as an example he had an exceptional 86 World Cup, single handedly dragged Napoli to the SerieA title, had a wonderful scoring record at both club and international level.
Messi is an amazing player but to become the greatest player ever there is still work to be done.
