Immense Photographs indeed. My first final was 1984 v Dundee Utd which was great but I wish I hadn't gone as I was to small to see on terraces and that ruled me out of a lot of finals including this! Still me and my mate Iain screamed the house down aged 10 and 11 respectively while his dad just stood there shaking his head going 'what a goal'.

My all time hero. Still breaks my heart a bit thinking back to his passing. Nearly crashed the works van on the M8 when it came on the radio. Now 41, 2 years older than Coop was when he left us. Imagine being older than Coop ever got to be? Just not right is it? He so deserved to play in more successful 'Gers teams, no doubt, but he was one of us & that's all he cared about. The Rangers. Magic thread. Made my night seeing all these pics.

Davie 'super Cooper' was always the players name i claimed whilst out playing fitda with my wee pals in the 1970's!

We used to do our own comentaries into the tape recorder and when i was kidding on i was Arthur Montford, it was always Cooper i'd have scoring for fun against Celtic and i'd scream into the tape recorder and play it back...."Cooper has the ball...he's just gone by big Roy Aitken like he wasn't there and smashed it into Peter Latchford's top left hand corner...what a goal by super Cooper!"....Ah memories! :D

:(

Rest in peace David Cooper...we will never forget you

Only person in my life that I would term my hero.. Can't believe it is that long, know exactly where I was when I heard he died.

I was driving along the main steet in Burnside, stopped at a flower shop and headed straight over to Ibrox. There was already a couple of bunches of flowers when I arrived at the gates next to the main stand and the Copland.. Left them there.

A few days later when I went back couldn't believe the amount of flowers and memorabilia, couldn't help but cry seeing it all and reading the messages left.

Went to his funeral in Hamilton, I don't have such a sad memory that even comes close to the death of my hero.

Just so glad I had met him.

Always remember a piece of commentary from a league cup semi final, either 1986 or 87 against Dundee Utd, and Cooper received a cross field pass. The noise level in the terraces lifted and swept across the ground, like the swirling wind which cost many a goalkeeper their reputation at Hampden.

"........And a roar of anticipation as Davie Cooper receives the ball."

This summed up how the fans felt about Coop, how supremely talented he was and how much of an entertainer he was too. Naturally he went on another mind boggling, physics defying mazy run and terrorised their defence once more. Who could believe that here was a player with such unbelievable individual skill, who could do things with a ball that most professionals could only dream of, and he's a Rangers man through and through, with no interest in playing in the bigger leagues for top European outfits (even though he could have) because he played for the team he loved.

It's the stuff of fantasy, but with Coop it was so marvellously real.

Still as sadly missed today as he was 16 years ago :(

The first player whose number I ever got on the back of a jersey was Coop's number 11. You sometimes forget how fortunate you are to have seen someone with his talent in the flesh. Younger bears have to make do with the grainy YouTube clips but I have the privilege of having those memories in my head, things like his one man destruction of Ilves Tampere, THAT free kick against Aberdeen at Hampden or the winning spot kick against the Shettleston Harriers, all of which I can still picture as if it happened yesterday.

See looking at the pics on the first page, it's just abundantly clear that he had a poise about him that I've rarely seen since.

You can, even from the still pic, just imagine that the next thing that's happening is that a defender is going on his arse and he's off to the bye line.

I love wathcing the less well known clips of him. The tribute on youtube is a great one but there's a thrill still to be had from seeing him glide past people.

I watched the LCF against the Sheep with his freekick a year or so ago for the first time in a decade. He had a very quiet first half (the free kick apart) but in the second he was tearing them a new one.

It was just so exciting to see moves that I'd long forgotten. I'd recommend anyone go and dig out their old VHS tapes (not just look things up on youtube) and watch him in action again.

God bless you Davie.

A truely gifted player and a Rangers man to the core. RIP Davie Cooper.

It's always struck me as particularly sad (if understandable) that Coop's overall performance against Wales in 1985 was so overshadowed by Jock Stein's death.

Obviously the fact that he scored the penalty is often mentioned, but for the twenty minutes or so he was on the park he was absolutely magnificent. Completely transformed a dreadful Scotland performance - rarely seen a team be so lifted by the introduction of one substitution.

RIP Davie

The 2nd Leg of the 1984 Skol Cup Semi Final at Ibrox Feb 1984.

Davie Cooper simply tore apart the best ever Dundee Utd side. This Utd side reached the European Cup Semi Final that season, losing in very controversial circumstances to Roma.

Davie Cooper was genuinely World Class that night.

I've stated this a few times on here, I know. It was / is as good a performance as I've ever seen from a Rangers player.

Used to 'Dog' school the odd friday to go over to the Albion training ground to watch the team train and Coop was always one of the nicest, most approachable players there was. Got countless photos taken with him and others but Coop was different. Legend.

I still remember the day 16 years ago when i was waking up in a flat i was living in on Fergus Drive in the west end and heard it on Radio Snyde. Stunned me to the bone. Straight on the subway and over to Ibrox like a lot of others as it just felt the place to be. never ever forget the gates with the scarves n flags.

I think there was only a dozen scarves or so on the gate when i arrived and i sat there most of the day, couldnt drag myself away. Think i spoke to a reporter from the Sun (i know i know) and now jsut like then i cant remember a single thing i said to him as i was numb.

Love watching the videos, clips etc of him. Not just the wonderful goals like the Drybrough Cup, Skol Cup Final or the dribble against Tampere but his play in general. What a sad sad day that was and only god knows what he might have achieved in coaching had his number not been called 16 years ago.

RIP Davie.

One of my all time favorite Rangers players, made an instant impact when him and Smith signed and done the treble 77/78 and he was immense, suffered under JG spell and JW second reign but had a new lease of life playing beside class players under Souness.
Remember him playing agians us in the 3 LC games before we defeated Clydebank at Firhill before joining us.

The guy was a genuine class act, sadly missed.

Never forgotten and I,l always rem the 1st game after his death at Tannadice against Utd, during the minutes silence a ball rolled down the touchline in front of dugouts when no one near it,whether it the wind or Coops last dribble it was a very eerie moment. God Bless You Coop and thanx for the memories watp

Great memory from should always be remembered as a sad day for Scottish football.

Lived his dream to the full. Sad that he was born 10 years too early to be part of a truly great side.

Instant choice to any All Time Team.

His goal against Aberdeen at Hampden when Leighton started moving when the net was rippling still my favourite memory of the old stadium

23rd March 1995, a day I'll never forget. I had come home from school for lunch and heard the sad news of Davie's passing on the radio. I just stood there stunned. I couldn't believe it. I was two days away from my fourteenth birthday and it was the first time I had a real understanding of what death actually meant. On my way back to school, I saw my younger brother and told him - he was never much of a football fan, but was a Davie Cooper fan - he even switched teams and started supporting Motherwell when he signed for them! Then when I got back to school, I remember breaking the news to my pals in history class. I just sat there the whole afternoon stunned. The next day (I'm sure it was a Friday) my dad was meant to leave for something to do with his work in Glasgow - I remember begging him to take me so we could pay our respects at Ibrox. He didn't take much coaxing.

Rest in peace Davie, you were my first Rangers hero and I'll never forget the joy you brought me.

To me he will always be the greatest. Davie Cooper was my hero & I regale (possibly bore) my 8 year old son with tales of the Coops prowess, must be having some impact though as he told me a couple of months ago that his favourite Rangers player was "Davie Cooper of course".
