Support for other devices:

The thread header continually mislead people and I can't change it but this ought to work for most smart phones and calendar apps. The header refers to the devices I was able to test this on at the time. Please refer to the following posts for advice or in some cases just validation that certain devices are supported. Thanks to all the FF users that have contributed.

outlook - post 106/280
andriod/htc - post 175/200/216/248/283*/320*
Galaxy Nexus - post 382
Samsung note - post 372
mozilla sunbird - post #201

-----------------------

Hopefully this can come to some good use to fellow follow followers.

I've created an updated fixtures calendar, primarily for use on the iPhone. It contains all the first team fixtures (plus placeholders for future rounds of competitions we're in, and post split fixtures), and all the known scottish international dates for the rest of the year.

Edited: to also provide a clickable link which may suit some people : http://www.google.com/calendar/ical/rfcfixtures-2011%40yahoo.co.uk/public/basic.ics

Although I'm pretty sure this link can be imported into outlook and other devices, I've not tried any of this myself, so any assistance on that front will be limited.

I intend to keep this as up to date as possible when rearranged fixtures are announced, and TV broadcasters are confirmed etc.

To add the calendar to the iPhone, follow these steps, and then add the url (easiest if you copy and paste to avoid typos)

Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendar -> Add Account... -> Other -> Add Subscribed Calendar

All going well, I'll continue this same calendar into next season and of course if anyone notices any mistakes, please do let me know.

cheers

---------------
Update

The calendar has been updated for season 2011-2012, so any existing users need not do anything to keep it up to date.

Fixtures changed for television, postponements etc will be updated as soon as the information becomes known.

Did you copy and paste the url? If so you may have left the hyphen at the beginning of the http part. See if that's there and if so delete the hyphen at the beginning and try again. Works perfectly for me.

My best guess would be to remove any extra spaces at the end of the link you've copied in, or extra characters at the beginning.

Note that the url I've provided above is prefixed with a hyphen, this is to stop the board from truncating the text into a shortened clickable link like this, which always causes problems when people try to copy from them.

I've managed to get it om my iPhone4. Follow the original instructions at the start then take away the hyphen at the begging so it now starts with http. Then at the end, if it's the same as mine, it says 20%. Delete thus so the last character is 's'. Press done and it should save automatically

Yeah, rogue characters at the beginning, or end of the url are probably are the most likely source of problems.
Also, be sure to copy the link from the original post, and not the one in post 9.

Thanks - I appreciate any corrections like that.

One of my pals asked me the same question about that earlier, though strangely it was set to midday when I checked the calendar. That should have been 12.45 anyway so I've updated that, hopefully it looks alright for you now. I've no idea why you were seeing 10am.

This is probably a good time to deny responsibility for any feckups that occur as a result of mistakes in this calendar.

Just to make people aware, I'll be continuing to update this calendar for the forthcoming season.

As with last year, it will contain:

All the first team fixtures (announced 17th June)
Placeholders for future rounds of competitions we may be in, and post split fixtures
All the known Scottish international dates
UK TV broadcasting information
Scores (and Rangers/Scotland scorers) updated retrospectively

I've been toying with the idea of including the U19s this year, maybe even Scottish U21s but am currently undecided on whether that'd be excessive or not. Any feedback on that from anyone that's been using it for the last 6 months would be appreciated.

To be honest, the level of information you are providing is ideal. The u-19/21 levels would be overkill for me. I've got an interest in results and team/individual players' progress at those levels but not looking for knowledge of match schedules.

It's a cracking facility you provide by the way - very useful.

Tell you what you could add matey is the draw dates for the European tournaments...like the date for the draw of the CL groups (should we get there)

Folk are quite often asking about that.

There's a page on the Bert Kassies site that lists them all.

Good shout, was trying to keep it realistic with the champions league third qualifying round fixtures, and playoff round fixture placeholders already noted, but the draw dates for these fixtures makes sense as well.

Is there no way you can make money off it?

Wouldn't dream of it, the difference in effort between me doing this for myself as I'd be doing anyway, and making the information public is tiny to be honest. That it's being found useful by other bears is payment enough for me.

Does it work for android?

Seems to, there are a few responses from Android users earlier that have gotten it to work. I've never used an Android in anger though, so couldn't tell you how it's done.

What he said^^ If it ain't broke - don't fix it.

I hear ya. If the mood takes me later in the year, I might set up a seperate calendar for this purpose then. That way folk can pick and choose which combination of fixtures to subscribe to.

I've been using your calendar extensively this year and it has been fantastic.

I agree with the 'if it aint broke' comment. If you are considering seperate calendars then I would suggest breaking out the Scotland international games too and hence having the option of just Rangers matches.

I agree with the 'if it aint broke' comment. If you are considering seperate calendars then I would suggest breaking out the Scotland international games too and hence having the option of just Rangers matches.

Thanks a million mate, you are a star!

While that might be good in a way, I think part of the original idea was to help show what free weekend Rangers might have.

If it's blank, folk may think it's been left for a League Cup or Scottish Cup future round. The Scotland games, if they're confirmed dates, are handy ones to have listed IMO.

I set this up last year on my iphone calander and it is a brilliant tool for checking out games and also that when a fixture has been moved likewise its on the calander. i take it there is nothing for me to do for the coming season then, it will load the season fixtures when they come out.

I did that at first, you have to get rid of the hyphen at the start.

I couldn't work out how to do that,so I just typed it by hand. :o

Out of interest why has this been bumped now, are the new fixtures out?

No, they're due on the 17th of this month. With that in mind, and a few preseason fixtures having been announced it made sense to mention it before they come out so that existing subscribers know what to expect.

Was also to gain opinion on a few ideas I had to change it.

As best I can, and the same for postponements etc. Tv changes can be a bit more difficult to keep on top of but its normally not long after its announced on FF that it's updated. I double check a lot of them in the days before a game too just in case something's amiss.

Yeah mate - paste the url into your internet explorer browser and save the file to your hard drive. Then go into outlook calendar then file - import and export - import an iCalendar or vCalendar file then select the file you saved. Worked perfectly for me!

Yeah I've swithered on this type of fixture, as it was a reserve / 19s team that was there last year.

Having included the Stirling Albion fixture, I reckon I should add this in too though. Do you have an official link about this from either club that I can include in it for other peoples reference?

iPhone?

Possibly just down to it not having polled for updates, it's not necessarily instant. Stop the calendar application (as opposed to minimising it), and start again is the quickest way to try to kick it into life.

Otherwise, if you're viewing multiple calendars on your phone, ensure you've set the option to display the entries from this particular calendar - i.e. via the Calendars button that you can see here: http://i.zdnet.com/blogs/apple_iphone_calendar.jpg

Best thing you can do is go to gmail on your computer, log in on your account, go to the calendar and import it there.

Then start up the calendar application on your HTC, it should normally load automatically and appear in the standard calendar application on your phone (provided it is linked with your gmail. which you can do in the settings).

brido6969

Ok, I have a technical question that I cannot solve.

I have put the calendar into my outlook and it appears as a seperate calendar called "basic", however I would like all of the appointments in my actual calendar with all my work appointments. I know that I can copy and paste them all across (also can do this as a whole with ctrl+A) however is there a way to get the appointments all updating in my actual calendar?

Cheers

In your standard calendar for the HTC phone you can go to settings and choose to link the calendar to Google.
Then log in on a gmail account you have, you put the calendar on there in the options (The website tells you how to do it), then your calendar on the phone should automatically update and show them.

I finally got it working on my Desire S, but I think you will need g-mail. G-mail is a doddle, to sort out - look up google mail.

It won't cock up your e-mail as you don't have to have it linked to your e-mail app (I don't as there is a separate gmail app installed).

(using your pc) Once you have your g-mail sorted out, go to calendar and add a new calendar using the link on the first page.

(on phone) go into settings on your calendar and allow it to use all calendars. Sync together and you should be fine. Remember to highlight the googlemail calender and press menu and choose the rfc one - which is what I hadn't done earlier.

Cheers to the OP, good effort fellah.

Not yet, as we don't know we're in it yet. I hope I'll be able to add those fixtures by the 24th of August.

I installed this a few weeks ago, brilliant application, thanks!

I would suggest though for the Champions League and the Scottish Cup & League Cup, that you put in the dates when the rounds of these are scheduled anyway - as we're seeded and expected to progress (not tempting fate!) and knowing these dates are very handy for helping to plan holidays around potential Rangers games which a lot of people use it for.

I appreciate the suggestion, and about 49% of me agrees with you Tardy. There are placeholders for every domestic competition round that'll be removed in the event of us being eliminated.

The Champions League dates are slightly different in that if we progress further, it'll be into 1 of 2 competitions that operate (at times) on different weeks. If I included both of those I'd be peppering the calendar with some dates that will never happen, which is why it's currently only got the date up until the CL playoff round as after that point everything becomes clearer.

To be honest I dither over adding these dates every time I think about it (I tend to dismiss it at the thought of adding in the Champions League final), so it would be good to get other peoples opinions on this.

thanks.

I appreciate your dilemma, think it would be a good idea to add the Champions League group stage dates now and then sort the post-Christmas stuff at the end of the group.

Also, I don't see the placeholders for the domestic competitions, so maybe I have to refresh it!

Bobbydazzler - I make up a calendar (lo-fi ie laminated paper) every year and include cl and el dates right up to the final, adding "ia" meaning "if applicable" and in this way I avoid annoying the gods of football. I think it would be useful if you added them in now!

All going well, I'll continue this same calendar into next season and of course if anyone notices any mistakes, please do let me know.

cheers

BD,
I installed this when you created the original, what do I need to do to get the new fixtures for this season

Don't think anyones mentioned having done this yet, but I can't see why not. I expect it'll be the exact same setup as the iPhone.

That's great! Just loaded it into my Google calender which means it'll pop up on my Android phone. Not only that but also it'll synch with my girlfriend's phone so she knows I'll be busy! Simples.

Thanks!

Works perfectly on my android too.

Many thanks to the OP!

Anyone else with an android just go to WWW.Google.com/Calender then log in and under other calenders click add. Then it will sync with your stock Calender on the phone. :)
