No collar and tie because he turned up for training as usual with St. Johnstone only to be told that the Rangers wanted to sign him, full speed to Ibrox with no time to change, and the rest as they say is history.

Think Colin Stein came first at 100,000 from Hibs followed by Doddie at 50,000 from St Johnstone.Great period in my RFC life.I remember Alex as one of the best man marking mid-fielders I have ever seen.
For us oldies,he was part of a smashing side from Perth ( managed by Willie Ormond )that included Henry Hall,John Connolly,Jim Pearson and Kenny Aird.
Doddie scored some crucial goals in our European games and some of the same v Celtic.

That was my first Rangers-sellick game.

My Dad tells a story about him, when we used to go to the games on a Saturday. We'd drop my brother off at my Nana's on Avon Street off PRW. After the game we'd head right back, i'd head round the corner and he'd nip in to the Cherry Tree for a pint with my Grandpa. On several occasions, Doddie would have beaten us up the road and would already be sitting at the bar having a pint. :D

Rangers legend.
