The Kelly's and The White's great "Shite Elephant" of the early 90s.

The "Superstadium" with a 52,000 capacity stadium, and two purpose built train stations.

For a club who were pulling in less than 12,000 a week at the time :)

"Shite, we just got beat 3-1 at home off Thistle. Stick the Cambuslang story in the Mail again"

12 Sep 1992

A DEAL to buy the site for Celtic's proposed #100m stadium at Cambuslang near Glasgow will be concluded within the next week, according to the club's chief executive, Mr Terry Cassidy.

8 Jan 1994

CELTIC expect to hear within the next few days that the #22m required to pay for the construction of a stadium in Cambuslang, Glasgow, has been pulled together and that a date can be set for the start of constructing the club's new home.

I might be wrong but I'm sure i remember singing

'Cambuslang ha ha ha ,Cambuslang ha ha ha'

At my only ever visit to the old piggery in Jan 94 4-2 game

Tbf my mind may be playing tricks on me, surely their p*sh about cambuslang didnt last that long??!!

Incidentally found the Independent report from that game:

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football-celtic-blame-anticlimax-for-disorder-rangers-rampant-amid-unrest-1397698.html

'Kevin Kelly, the Celtic chairman, said: 'It was bitterly disappointing both in terms of the result and the trouble but we hope to identify the culprits and ban them from the ground'

Must have been hard to identify the 3 guys jailed for entering the field of play? bet they were back at parkhead within 2 weeks

Sorry for the thread hijack but it seems some things never change eh?

Did they not hold a press conference to say funding had been approved and they were going ahead with Cambuslang?

Within 24 hours the company who had supposedly put the finance in place denied any knowledge of it, the building company who were meant to be building it denied they were involved too.

Then the bank announced they wouldn't pay the 300k for Willie Falconer even though he had already signed.

Halcyon days indeed.

I'm sure the Glitterdome redevelopment cost nearer the 26million mark.

The figure i heard mentioned alot at the time was 36 million which can't be too far off unless they used mud and straw to build the thing. To think our club deck cost 20 million the cesspit is definately going to need alot of work on it to be fit for use in the years ahead.

You're right. They's arranged the finance through a company in Switzerland. Only problem was that when the investigative journalists phoned the company up they'd never heard of them.
