That was my 1st game against them. Still one of my favourite memories. You just knew from about 2 weeks beforehand that we were going to stuff them.

I remember Souness coming to the Gers, and I couldn't have been any older than 13, I always remember thinking at the time "wow"

Sticks with me to this day

Souness was the man, a wonderful footballer who could dish out the hard stuff when required. I recall Davie Provo of all people telling a story about the 2 of them playing for Scotland against Wales, and Peter Nicholas caught Provo with a bad challenge, Souness had a word with Provo and said he would sort him out, a couple of minutes later Nicholas was leaving the field on a stretcher:)

I became a self acknowledged Rangers fan in 77 as a 4yr old, growing up Souness made me realise how big Rangers were.

I went to a West of Scotland school where I was one of 4 Rangers fans out of 50 in a year.

No higher praise imho

That was a great day. We became the real deal and a pattern was set for years.

We were 9 points behind at one stage, 13 points in todays money. Celtic shat it, capitulated, collapsed, call it whatever.

Sunday will be a physical game, would have been nice to have Souness in the midfield but reckon Davis, Mcculloch and Edu will do fine in there.

Souness' arrival at Ibrox and on the pitch was like a tornado and watch out anyone that got in his way!

I know they talk about getting retaliation in early but Souness must have turned that big arsehole up into the air a good 18 months before THAT throw-in;)

Remember the hard time i got in school (6 or 7 miles from Ibrox) for going to watch the shite every week pre 86, a few years later and everyone was a bluenose - i blame the parents myself

Souness had won everything and was a Ranger.

Ripping the *rse out of anything was normal. Perfect ball to Cooper

I mean this in all seriousness

There was never a better time to be a Rangers supporter, past present and future.
The feeling of success after so many years of waiting was amazing, the promise of signing more and better players was outstanding. Souness, Butcher, Woods and Roberts along with Cooper and Durrant were always going to be one hell of a team

happy happy happy days

A great post

The second clip is the very definition of Rangers under the Souness era.
Simply the Best (indeed it was)

Sadly looking at our curent team there isn't a single player who would make the 1987 lineup

Souness had everything.

Hard as nails, stature, passing ability, goals and a gallus streak.

One of the world's top midfield players of his time.

When he arrived at Rangers it took weeks to hit me that he was also now the manager, i was only interested in seeing the man strut his stuff in a blue jersey.

:D

We weren't to be disappointed.

What a player. He had it all. A real superstar, captain of the best side in the history of British football. Souness has never had the success he had at Rangers as a manager and for me it's simply that he was born to play/manage Rangers (similarly with Lennon as Sellick manager, which says it all imo). The swagger, the grit, the skill, the arrogance even. We're better than you all, and, let's face it, we know we are attitude. It really got the crowd going.
