With thanks to Afca for an insight into the going ons at the Arena and to Dutch_FR1908 for his take on happenings at De Kuip
to try and show a lack of bias on my part , I`m going to stick the Feyenoord one up first

FEYENOORD

Last season saw Feyenoord reach the fourth place in the Eredivisie under new Coach Mario Been, This was a major improvement compared to the 7th spot they managed to get in the 2008/2009 season. They gathered a respectable 63 points compared to a meagre 45 points in the season before that under Gert-Jan Verbeek. And had a good cup run beating the likes of AZ Alkmaar, PSV and FC Twente before losing to Ajax in a final which I’ve said enough about

Local boy Mario Been (fun fact: He was born in the same neighbourhood as me and was my Dutch grandmother’s neighbour) managed to bring back the fun in the team and while the game wasn’t always as good as the fans wanted he managed to get the results in. He managed to do this without depending on the older players like Tim de Cler,Kevin Hofland,Roy Makaay and Denny Landzaat and instead fielding new blood in Stefan De Vrij , Bart Schekeveld , Darley Torres , Erwin Mulder , Luc Castaignos and Kelvin Leerdam.

This also had a lot to do with the financial state of the club. The club is still feeling the effects of years of mismanagement by the board of directors and bad scouting as the club turned down players such as Eriksen (Ajax) and Ruiz (FC Twente) in recent years. They also failed to see anything in current Brazilian left back Bastos and only stored him at the satellite club Excelsior before letting him go.

The current debt is around the €40 million euro mark. The current financial state does not allow Feyenoord to spend any money on new players and instead having to rely on free transfers and youth squad players.

This season sees Feyenoord saying goodbye to players such as Roy Makaay (retiring), Giovanni van Bronckhorst (retiring), and Denny Landzaat (out of contract) and a few youth players.

Current signings to date are Ruben Schaken & Adil Auassar (free transfers from VVV-Venlo) and youth squad players Jerson Cabral, Bruno Martin-Indi, Ricky van Haaren and Mokotjo who was on loan at Excelsior.

As stated before we are forced to bleed in a lot of young players and this season we have 6 players for the Dutch under 19 squad. These are: Bart Schenkeveld, Stefan de Vrij, Bruno Martins Indi, Ricky van Haaren, Jerson Cabral and Luc Castaignos.

The ones to look out for this season in my opinion are
Luc Castaignos (17 years old) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tg3E3...eature=related
Kamohelo Mokotjo (19 years old) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTa_s...eature=related
Georginio Wijnaldum (19 years old) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfF9L3WbeHw
Leroy Fer (20 years old) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqW3MwUdpdg

Default Re: Dutch football :- the new seson from both sides of the Amsterdam/Rotterdam fence
and from Amsterdam

AJAX

We had a spectacular run after the winter break last season, only drawing two games (NAC and Feyenoord away) and winning the rest. The reason? A good side, but more than anything, a good manager given the time to build and experiment for the first time since Morten Olsen in 1998. Suarez scoring 124534523 goals helped a bit as well. In the end, we lost out on the league on just one point, with an extraordinary good Twente side clinching the title. Still, we won the cup (defeating Feyenoord in a double final) and finished second, leaving us with two rounds of CL-qualifiers in pre-season. After finishing off PAOK and Dynamo Kiev, we're facing AC Milan, Real Madrid and Auxerre in what is to be our first CL-campaign in five (!) years.
OK, so, the transfermarket. Somehow we managed to hold on to lat season's stars Suarez, Van Der Wiel and Stekelenburg, who all performed rather good in South Africa as well. To the delight of the Ajax fans, the only players important players who left are Marko Pantelic (30-something Serbian striker, signed for Olympiakos) and Dennis Rommedahl (last year's supersub, the Danish winger has now signed for the same team as his former teammate Pantelic: Olympiakos). To bolster our attacking options, we signed El Hamdaoui from AZ Alkmaar for around £4 million. The lad has proven he can handle the Eredivisie (he was one of the main forces in AZ's league winning side of 08/09) and has scored 4 goals in his first 4 league games for Ajax. We also welcomed back an old friend, with Mido signing form Middlesbrough. I know he hasn't really performed well since moving to England, but he was instrumental in our league winning campaing of 01/02 and he's on a pay-as-you-play contract, so we should be fine. He has repeatedly stated Ajax is the biggest club he played for and that he would like to return, loves the fans etcetera.
In midfield, we've signed another injury-prone EPL reject: Teemu Tainio. I remember him from his Auxerre days (he was superb then), but he hasn't exactly set the EPL on fire. Like Mido, however, he's on a pay-as-you-play contract so we shouldn't worry too much. If anything, his experience could be vital to our young side.
Defensively, we've strengthened our squad by signing former Ajax youth set up alumnus and 10year PSV player Andre Ooijer on a bosman. He was terrible at PSV last season, but - to the whole nation's surprise - played very well against Brazil in South Africa.
Also, two young players have been added to the first team: defensive midfielder Roly Bonevacia and right winger Florian Jozefzoon. Both have been mentioned as promising prospects for years and seem to be adapting well to the level of the first team.

Financially, we're in a pretty poor state. There's 35 million euro's on the bank, but we're losing money by the year, mainly because of sky high wages. Selling the likes of Suarez, Van Der Wiel, Stekelenburg and Vertonghen next year should solve this, but it remains to be seen where this would leave us quality-wise. Thus making it vital to (for the first time in six !!! years) win the league this season. An incredibly exciting battle with PSV lies in the future, and we can't exactly rule out Twente either. All in all, it should be a good season. Bring it on, i'd say. We're ready!

Roda, not an easy draw.

I doubt we'll have another cup run like last year. Added games in Europe too, more cities for Het Legioen to smash up :D

Do you think Ajax will cash in on Suarez this summer?

I think somebody posted on another thread that they recorded quite signaficent losses.

Suarez could fetch 20 mill euros at least i think on the back of the World Cup and his exploits last season?

Don't count on getting tickets for these games! No away support for 4 more years and the home support are bound to strict security rules I'm afraid.

Forget what he does on a real football pitch. The guy will be forever remembered as a champ man 01/02 legend. used to be able to buy him for about 40k and he would turn into a world beater within a couple of years :D

Was looking at the AZ Alkmar home page did'nt realise that they have had money problems and have been open to offers for players. cant spell the Belgium players named but they have two forwards who look like they could be for the off. The one who I would be interested in, is at home on either wing seems that Birmingham are interested.

Two referees fail the annual rule test : (google translated from ad.nl)

ZEIST - Referee Ruud Bossen and Pieter Vink have failed the annual test of rule to the national Football Association KNVB. Although the pair have been appointed for the matches Roda JC - FC Twente and Heerenveen - PSV Eindhoven this weekend.

Ruud Bossen. AP PHOTO
Within two weeks to check and re-examination Forests do. If they re-issues, then the pair "until further order" not classified for competition.

"I dare not say what questions and Peter Ruud undoing have done," says the new boss of the arbitrators, Dick van Egmond, today in The Telegraph. "It is a very tough exam, which every time umpires to fail. "

"It also gives the value of the test. If anyone succeeds, it is also worth nothing. Ruud and Peter should remain in the program. And if they still do well over two weeks, there is nothing wrong. I have stressed to all referees: boys, keep learning, keep studying, so you are not missing in the game goes. "

Check for its heavy months. At the end of last season he was heavily in frustration when he was one of the Tukkers handsbal AZ - FC Twente overlooked. Finch was suspended for two games by the KNVB and the intercession of the League semi-final of the Europa League Fulham - Hamburger SV removed. (RED)

Looking forward to the Eredivisie kick off tonight. I don't think many people believe Twente have much of a chance of retaining the title this year but the league has been great entertainment the past two seasons.

Here's hoping Mario Been has been able to sort out our comedy defence!

Same here mate! Have you seen the average age for our squad ? It's around 21,5 years! And if Rob van Dijk(41) is playing it's boosted up to 23 years ;)

Our attack against Villa consisted of Wijnaldum (19) , Castaignos (18) and Cabral (19)

When Wijnaldum, Biseswar and Bruins are on form we look good going forward IMO, but a good league campaign is based on a solid defence and midfield helping them out. Bahía and Fer had far too many 'Titus Bramble' moments last year for me. :(

It said it was 2-1 to Den Haag and suspended earlier. Now saying 3-2 Deen Haag full time.

Strange.

Dutch_FR, could you put these in the opening post please?

Cheers!

I'll be honest with you, the majority of the PSV clown will support either one we're playing. They do that with all the game.
We play Marseille, the place is full of PSG gear, we play Liverpool, the whole bus is covered in blue.

Last time we went back, we travelled on the same ferry as thje Everton fans on their way to Liege, the looks on their faces when they saw a Dutch coach full of Everton gear...:D

Yeah that never happens at ajax does it ;)

But I can't blame some of them to be honest. Sky high prices for a average team

But hey I'd rather have real fans than glory hunters :)

We don't moan about how great we are as fans all day, now dow we;)

Twente has the best home support. Away support, between us, is a draw.

Ajax are a far superior side but derby's are always hard to call. I'm going for 3-1 Ajax

Two young teams today!

Feyenoord average : 23.7 (Mainly due to 41 year old goal keeper Van Dijk , Without him it would have been 21.9 years )
ajax average : 23.1 years

He was suspended during the week so should be fit for this one.

Always enjoy watching this fixture as I can sit back as a neutral.

They are facing the same problems as everyone else. Money. It's a shame to watch two huge clubs like this looking so poor. I guess it's the same when people watch the Glasgow derby these days.
