Was talking to a fellow follow follow poster today about a game that took place at Tannadice in April of our 98/99 treble winning season against Dundee that finished 1-1 with Vidmar scoring for us. Strangely the game was played at Tannadice & not Dens Park for reasons i can't remember. Anyway at the end of the game we pushed big Colin Hendry up front as we looked for a winner & he had a & i use the term loosely shot at goal. Any footage of this or the game itself would be much appreciated. Cheers.

He'd score for fun up here.

He came on as a sub that did he not ? Had one header which went miles over the bar.

The game was played at Tannadice due to the away stand being built behind the goal IIRC.

Can't say for sure that he played up front that day, but i did see him play centre forward in the highland league for Keith many moons ago. He started his career up front.

I remember that shot actually, he more or less booted it the way he was facing. I think it went for a throw

He was only pushed up front at the end of the game & may well have came on as a sub.

It is possibly the worst attempt I've seen from a rangers player.

Claudio Reyna made his debut in that game.

Beat Aberdeen a week later, to set up the win at the piggery.

Was sure he played up front for Dundee before being coverted to a central defender

That is correct, he started his pro career as a striker at Dundee.

Vaguely remember him slicing a shot in that game. To be fair to him though darcheville hit a few corner flags in his time up front.

I remember watching the game and Derek McInnes had a shocker, he just couldn't do anything right.

IIRC hendry got punted up front even though we had a young striker on the bench (may have been Darren Fitzgerald)

You've forgotten Marcus Gayle's :o "long range effort" v Dundee United at Ibrox a few years later, just before Bert "Nuriyev" Konterman sold them their second goal

I actually felt like clawing my eyes out that day

I'm 99% sure McInnes wasn't playing.

He played v accies in the LC 3rd round in August, and didn't feature again until the Scottish Cup Final on May 31st.

Bravo my good sir !

A quality riposte from a quality fellow, no doubt.

Your gib has a fine cut to it indeed !

The Hamilton game was in Smith's final season (August 1997)

McInnes played as a sub in the final six or so games the 98/99 season(including the title win at the Scumhut) before starting the SC Final due to Reyna's ineligability.

I plead incapacity due to being utterly, utterly shitfaced from the period of immediately after the sheep game until the Monday after the cup final :):)

Possibly but does not win . For me the worst was by DJ in January 1980 in a scottish Cup Replay against Clyde . Dj attempted anoverhead kick but caught the ball with his toe and the ball shot straight up in the air when it came back down it had snow on it:):):)

Rangers not winning cost my mate 8k. He was waiting on us for a coupon that had 10 results already with some ridiculous scores getting him to that point.

He's still sore about it to this day. He's a Utd fan too. Made it even worse Dundee had got a point.

but surely his boot was aimed at the goal, big hendry was facing away from goal and aimed away from goal!

Hendry did come on as a sub and it was tricky Dicky managing, so '99 it was.

The team was Klos
Porrini Amoruso Vidmar
Kanchelskis Gio Reyna Albertz McCann
Johnansen Wallace

Amato (65) Hendry (79) and McInnes (80) came on as subs. McInnes must have had a hellish 10 minutes. :)

I'm sure this game was a Sunday evening kick off at 6.05pm live on Sky, I was in the main stand that evening. we spent most of the game going to the toilet after being in a local snooker club all day drinking.

did he swing at it with his left foot?
I remember the ball slicing off to the left so he might have hit ot with the otside of his left foot. Either that or it was a lot worse than im giving him credit for

He did play up front that night at tannadice against dundee (dens was being redeveloped)

he was also a striker for dundee when he was younger (not a very good one) - donald mackay took him to blackburn for 30k - think dundee made a few bob from add ons

anyone wanting to watch this game again needs their head examined.

It was our 2nd worst performance that season, following the 3-1 reverse at McDairmid Park (no I haven't forgotten the 5-1 doing at torbett towers) and had me seriously worried we were bottling it

And then when we were losing 1-0 to the Sheep at Ibrox I was seriously shitting it.

Thankfully, we stuck home 3 goals (including a stonker from Wallace which sent Ibrox nuts) to win 3-1 and set us up nicely for the 2/5/99
