View Full Version : Memorable fan celebrations

After watching a few videos on youtube it struck me how sometimes, when the camera pans into the crowd after a goal, that the sight of a Bear going delirious in his celebrations becomes iconic with that moment and match, in my mind at least.

A case in point, and possibly the most famous, is the Santa Claus lookalike in the East Enclosure celebrating with Walter Smith after Erik Bo Andersen had sunk the tarriers during the 9IAR New Year game.

The other that sticks in my mind most is the tall guy with swept back hair wearing a stars and stripes jumper standing with arms aloft and a look of unbridled jubilation after Albertz tucks away a penalty on 2nd May 1999 as we won the league at the Piggery.

For some reason, the joy on his face (from 5:21 of this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCiILF4UIgA)) is something I always associate with that wonderful day, along with the huddle after the game. :)

Any other stand out supporter celebrations that are synonymous with a particular game?

Have a look at some of the post-match scenes at Pittodrie in 1987. At least one will feature a pair of legs sticking up into the air. The photographs must be out there, somewhere.

I mentioned that guy doing the 'dry your eyes' motion when this footage was posted a few weeks back. I taped this game for my dad who was working away and must have played it back a hundred times when we watched the game together.

Another I remember was during a midweek winter game at Tannadice during the Advocaat years. Vidmar is standing by a brick wall with the ball behind his head waiting to take a throw as someone was getting treatment when a Bear wearing a deerstalker hat leans in front of him and pretends to wank him off. :D Have never seen footage of it since.

I remember that incident but I thought it was DeVos of Utd who was taking the throw in- I could be wrong.Nonetheless it was hilarious and I've tried to get footage but to no avail.

I'm so glad someone has been able to clarify that this did indeed occur! I've brought this up in conversation so many times before and only been met with blank expressions.

I'm fairly certain it was big Tony but who cares, I'm no longer imagining things! :D

One of my most memorable was in 81/82 November when we drew 3-3 at San Giro. The score was 3-2 to us after only 21 minutes it was a freezing soaking wet day but he the sweat was lashing of me in the Rangers end that day. Probably the most incredible start to an OF game i have ever witnessed

With you on that one m8, Gordon Dalziel scored a couple I think, the Bears end was delirious. During one celebration I accidently punched a crush barrier, didn't feel any pain till half-time!

As you say played in a downpour, but the atmosphere will stay with me forever.

Always remember helicoper Sunday 05 got about a hundred texts saying I was on tv when Novo scored, giving the salute to hibs fans lol.

not hard to find with the amount of videos made from that day !!!!!

Seem to remember a fantastic celebration when Ian Durrant scored vs beggars at the copland end think it was about 1995 or so? Copland end went mental. was to make it 1-1

I know the one you speak of. The camera focused on the guy for about 90 seconds as he just screamed at the top of his lungs with eyes bulging and vines popping on his neck and temple. It terrifically sums up the sheer emotion that football can summon in a person.

Possibly my favourite of the lot; the effort this punter has gone to and the ref's double take are what set it apart.

Edu's last minute winner against them at Ibrox in the season before last was the most celebrated goal I've seen at Ibrox in many a long year. The celebrations were reminiscent of times past. The greatest I've ever seen us celebrate a goal was when Kai Johansen hit the winner in the replay of the 1966 Cup Final. A game I will never forget.
