View Full Version : The KFC Uerdingen 05 Thread

A few weeks ago i started a thread on here suggesting that some of us, brought together by Follow Follow, could find some spare time on here to track another smaller team in addition to the Rangers. There was a good few suggestions of teams in the thread at the time ( http://forum.*****************/showthread.php?t=505143 ) and after some discussion there was a clear winner, KFC Uerdingen 05.

KFC Uerdingen 05

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/63/KFC_Uerdingen_05.png

KFC Uerdingen 05 have had something of an interesting history to say the least. A German team over a century old now, they've had success and failure in equal measures of the years until their recent history when they've went into freefall down the German league system falling from the Bundesliga to the 6th division in only 12 years.

So what does this team have to link it to Rangers? Firstly, they play in blue, white, and red. Secondly, they've been discussed and followed to a small extent on Follow Follow in the past. Thirdly, when they were a bigger club with decent sponsorship they were the first team outside Denmark to sign a certain Brian Laudrup.

So basically this is a thread to track their progress, and to give those interested in following the progress of the team somewhere to talk. Hopefully over time we'll be able to forge strong links between both supports - although not in a "speshial relationship" way, Sellick style. I cant stress that enough.

Where can you follow KFC Uerdingen 05 online?

www.kfc-online.de - (The official homepage)

www.ultras-krefeld.net - (The best homepage for pictures and videos in the "Galerie")

Also on Follow Follow we have a regular(ish) poster who takes a big interest in KFC Uerdingen 05, he posts as GeezerFCU on here:

I'm a KFC Supporter since 1994 and followed them from the Bundesliga as far as the sixth German Division - where they have to play right now. I used to post about the club on this board during our latest bankruptcy and even sold a couple of shirts on here. In addition to that i'm a known character among the support and i am sure your idea would be more than welcome at Uerdingen.

Between the two of us we aim to keep you all informed with the latest from Uerdingen. Hopefully some of you will be interested.

For highlights of the most recent match, a 1-0 win over Duesseldorf at the weekend, click here and view the video:

http://www.kfc-uerdingen.de/saison2007_08/thread.php?goto=firstnew&threadid=7346&sid=

Regular video updates and information can be found here:

http://www.kfc-uerdingen.de/saison2007_08/index.php?id=10&sid=

As a special bonus to make the video of the 1-0 win over Duesseldorf worth watching, i can tell you that one of the players trips over the linesman and goes flying like Klinsman would! :ninja:

There was talk, IIRC, of a suggested weekend away (to compensate for no European Run this season) by some users (Earl of Leven being one) on FF, I think Hamburg were the obvious preference, but Uerdingen got a mention in terms of going off the beaten track.

I prefer FC Koln myself over in the land of wurst, but knew of the supporters of Uerdingen and Hansa Rostock having sympathies towards the Gers.

Hope they get promoted back up to somewhere near the national leagues.

Is this the same team that was once called Bayer Uerdingen? Or is that another team?

Nice find, cheers for posting that - its from back when they were called FC Bayer 05 Uerdingen!

Funny to see the great Dane looking so young there. What a player he was.

What i would like to add is following idea i had regarding this thread:

I would like to arrange an event over here in Uerdingen sometime in near future - along with the Fans of Glasgow Rangers.

What i am thinking of is an celebration of both clubs and countries. Fish&Chips / Pipe band / Booze / German Girls / Booze - and as the main act: A game between the members of FollowFollow and the professional squad of KFC Uerdingen.

I already contacted my friends from the executive board of KFC and would like to hear your opinion as well. So - what do you say?

Been to Uerdingen 2 or 3 times watching Gladbach back in the late 80's and early to mid 90's. One that sticks in the mind was the last game of the season back in 1990 when they were still sponsored by Bayer. Laudrup and Bartram played that day as did Steffan Effenberg for the Foals and it was a scrappy 0-0 (piss poor to be honest - fixed I thought at the time) game that ensured both teams avoided a relegation play off. If Bochum won at home and either Gladbach or Uerdingen lost then they would be in the relegation play off (Bochum did win that day). Although I wasn't complaining as Gladbach (Effenberg, Kamps and Criens carried the team that year) avoided the potential drop the result seemed very contrived to me at the time!!

The team used to have a good following from many Squaddie Bears based in and around the Krefeld area and I remember having a good crack with the fans there every time we visited or they came to the Bokelberg.

It's sad to see how far they have fallen since Bayer withdrew their sponsorship and it really highlights what can happen when the cash dries up. I always keep an eye on what is going on over there in NRW and good luck following KFC but it's the Foals for me all the way!!

Sound like a good idea to me. A bit of welcome counter-culture from the FF eurocrats.

But what about the fisch-koppe the famous Hansa Rostock? :D

Hi mate....you are Julian?

Hansa Rostock lost the east german derby at Union Berlin 0-1 and the home match vs Oberhausen ( a Team in red and with a green Shamrock, like Cliftonville Scum!)0-2,so we must beat Koblenz next week!

Am I correct in saying KFC are a league below Fortuna Koeln? Finding it hard to keep track of the region leagues.

Yes.

Fortuna = NRW Liga (Division 5)
KFC = Niederrheinliga (Division 6)

I've followed Uerdingen for about a year now as I had an intrest in their ultras and seen their team begin to perform well, hopefully one day I can make a trip to see them play!

Went to see them with GeezerFCU when I was on holiday a couple of weeks ago. they were playing Kris Boydb new team (Cant spell it so not even going to try). Boyd wasn't playing but KFC won 2-1.

Will be getting a season ticket when i move to belgium next month and watch them play when I visit the in-laws in krefeld.

They've also won their first game in the higher division 4-0.

0-0 draw today away to Velbert.

7 points from first 3 games, you would have taken that GeezerFCU?
