There was one guy - a pal of Burke's - who got released by the club, lost his driving licence and got chucked by his bird all in the one week.

Reidford chose to leave in the summer in search of first team football. He's at Dunfermline now.

They raved about the 4 lads that got signed from the 1987 agegroup - Callum Reidford, John Johnston, Scott Agnew and Brian Gilmour. Reidford's at Dunfermline, Johnstone is at Arthurlie, Agnew has been at Hamilton, Alloa and now Ayr, and Gilmour has been at Clyde, Queen of the South and now FC Haka of Finland.

Definitely was a good goalkeeper, but realistically its difficult for a young goalkeeper to gain the number 1 jersey at a club like Rangers unless they are willing to bide their time and have a few loan spells like McGregor has done. I dont know if Reidford was willing to do that.

I thought he was awful, when playing for the youth sides it was heart in mouth stuff every time a cross came in.

never really felt the need to dwell on the past but after some deliberation here goes...

I appeared in the background on a few occasions, as i was in that same team as gilmour, agnew and johnstone (the ayrshire mafia as they were known) and reidford and fordy etc... the club had its favourites and gave them forms to sign off to be able to appear on the program and that was that. funny how many of the "favourites" are still at the club now eh. i actually remember being injured and sitting in the dugout beside tommy mclean overhearing him telling the manager at the time that none of the team i was in would make it at the club.

interesting additional notes here:

when hodge left to go to blackburn the story was it was 70k signing on fee and a grand a week. rangers used to offer players 10k to sign proffesionally and i think the last one to get this was ross mccormack.

we used to play hibs and every time the story was that fletcher was joining us. he never really turned up to play against us. of note, the only players i rated that we played against were considine at aberdeen, the boy mccluskey who was at hibs but left, and mcglinchey at celtic used to stroll through games.

Thanks for that wee bit of an insight. Interesting post.

I used to see at least two of that ayrshire mafia most mornings on the train when i went to Uni. Spoke to Johnston a few times as i recognized him as he was scoring pretty regular for the younger teams.

I know the boy McCluskeys father he is our electrician, Had a bad knee injury and Hibs let him go, has had a few trials in France and England but is looking for a good standard of club and I believe he was being offered a contract with a Italian Seria A team. Seen him a few times quite cultured and was seen as being better than Brown and Thomson when at Hibs.

Could we not send Rangers tv a email and ask them to show it again as it would be great to watch it again.

There was a player who was awesome, he played Street Football around the Charing X area, his brother killed himself with drugs, and football was this boys only hope as he nearly/did suffer a breakdown. I thought it was Jordan McMillan, but probably wrong, as this boy looked like Gazza but played like Zidane as one of the coaches said. He scored a hat trick in his first game against Celtic.

How's he getting on? Anyone know?

I'm sure that was Chris Craig. He's just too wee IMO to make it at the very top level but he certainly looks a good player for an SPL team to pick up.

How mental is this thread now with all the merging that's gone on! :D

Didn't this come out as a DVD/Video due to Rangers being so rubbish in 2003/04 and we'd basically no first team highlights to show ?

Sorry if this has already been posted.

Will have a look through old Rangers videos to check.

Yeah it did but it's a condensed version of the Blue Heaven programme and nowhere near as good or interesting.

Would be great if there was a "Where are they now" follow up to show what they are doing with their lifes/who they are at.

There was a time when I thought young Lennon really had a future even if it
wasn't with us and I hope he finds a club.

Young Craig, the lad from Anderston who used to "practise, practise,
practise."

He was one who appeared to have a bag of tricks and for someone so young
seemed to have a great attitude and I hoped he would fulfill his potential but
sometimes those who shine at that age don't follow on and others who are
less adroit at the same age blossom later.

I loved that series and I've got the condensed DVD of the shows and can
still remember the airing as though it were last week.

Oh forgot to say I used to be mates with one of them that was on it, Tom Brighton.

He is now at Stirling Albion.

Brian Gilmour and Steven Lennon were both offered contracts at Lincon but apparently they never got back to Chris Sutton by the deadline he set.

I knew about that but there were various stories saying that he was acting in
this manner as he didn't want to go there on loan in the first place.

Still your point is valid if you're going to have that type of attitude it can come
back to bite you on the arse and perhaps this is why he's without a club now.
