My Bro has been singing it non stop the past few days. H looked at videos on Youtube and found ones of The Corby Loyal (I think) and of Orange bands playing it. :D

Sounded quite good.

Is there a connection or is it just randomly played?

A light shown in the night some way ahead, blue turned into green then it was red
And stirring the night love music played the light I saw in the night was a penny arcade.

ALTOGETHER NOW!!

Hey step up and play each machine seemed to say,as I walked round and round the penny arcade
Just ring the bell on the big bagatelle and youll make all those colored lights cascade
And music played at the penny arcade, yes it played and it played, played all the time
Roll up and spend your last dime

At first I thought it a dream that I was in, lost, lost in a sea of glass and tin
But no, so dipping my hand in the back of my jeans I grabbed a handful of coins to feed the machine

Repeat chorus

Oh! repeat chorus

Roll up and spend your last, roll up and spend your last,
Roll up and spend your last dime

If we start singing this then we're going down the road of second rate teams that sing unrelated songs "for the sake of it".

Why would we ever want to sing this?

I might be slow, ignorant or just plain thick, but I can't see what connection this song has for us.

Let's sing our traditional songs.

Come on over came back to haunt us unfortunately.

The point I'm making is that we have many great songs to sing.

Many that even Murray would approve of, in these sanitised times, that are great tunes.

I posted a thread the other night about The Thornliebank Accordion Band and their tunes being played at Ibrox.

Unless Penny Arcade has some OO significance then I can't see what relevance it has.

If it does, then I'll bow out gracefully, and leave this thread to the Orange Brethren, as I'm not qualified to comment.

I think there is a place for both traditional and non traditional songs at Ibrox. Of late we have seen the TBO re introduce The Blue Sea and to a lesser extent Wolverhampton town which is one of the best of the older songs.

I too have no idea if there is any OO significance but the song is gathering pace. It has even reached Corby:D

I tell you - the fun I've had singing this with my Rangers and Orange brethern. It's quite simply our song - dirges are for the tramps! On an orange parade walking around a housing estate with nobody out and the rain coming down sideways, then the flute and drums start playing the penny arcade - puts a smile on everybody's face.

Lets's never b*dise this song and sing it with levity - we are the people!

A light shown in the night some way ahead, blue turned into green then it was red
and stirring the night love music played the light I saw in the night was a penny arcade

Hey step up and play each machine seemed to say,as I walked round and round the penny arcade
just ring the bell on the big bagatelle and you'll make all those colored lights cascade
and music played at the penny arcade, yes it played and it played, played all the time
roll up and spend your last dime

At first I thought it a dream that I was in, lost, lost in a sea of glass and tin
but no, so dipping my hand in the back of my jeans I grabbed a handful of coins to feed the machine

Repeat chorus

Oh! repeat chorus

Roll up and spend your last, roll up and spend your last,
roll up and spend your last dime

First time I heard it played was at the East parade this year - at a time when we probably most needed it!

It was glorious in Glenrothes that night and we sang it!

I also remember it when the East parade were heading up to Cathedral square for the divine service the next day. We were marching up the steep slopes by the cathedral and the rain and hail was slicing us in two - we had icicles on faces and the old guys and some of the ladies were wilting - the band started playing the penny arcade and we were laughing in the downpour. I heard one guy shout crazy bassas from a car at the lights and one old woman say "God Bless You" - that memory will remain with me forever and I'll probably love the song forever too.:)

My grandad used to tell me that the penny arcade was a place in the town where you could go and not have to mingle with Timmy for as the song proclaims: "ROLL UP SPEND YOUR LAST DIME"

Now back then Timmy didn't have many dimes (for many a reason) to his name let alone enough to go - "dipping my hand in the back of my jeans I grabbed a handful of coins to feed the machine"

Therefore it sounds to me that the Penny Arcade was a pretty fun place to be

PS. My grandad was a pathalogical liar ;)

My money is on the poster Harold_Davis, who has subsequently been banned

I stand corrected bud, although he was shunted pretty sharpish

given his subsequent unbanning Id say you were wrong, but hey, a nice bit of mud slinging btw, and if its any consequence I think its you, as Billy Wizz was a nick name given to Billy McNeil when he was a young lad at Celtic, its in his book, the same book he mention BJK

Why don't you channel your energy into singing traditional favourites like The Lily 'O' or Green Grassy Slopes of the Boyne ?.

Those songs actually celebrate our heritage.

Heartbeat by Scouting for Girls? Id love to hear 'gers fans singing that!

Am I alone in your heart?
Have I hope with your heart?
She's such a teaser, she's such a star.
Give me a reason or gimme a chance.
Am I alone in your heart, or am I alone?...
It tears me apart.

Doing all I can do, just to be close to you.
Every time that we meet, I skip a heartbeat.
Always up for a laugh, she's a pain in the ass
Every time that we meet, I skip a heartbeat.

Give me an evening, or give me a night.
I'll show you the time, of your life.
I'll walk you home safe, from the dark.
I'll give you my jacket, I'll give you my heart.
But she won't come dancing tonight, She's having the time of her life.

Doing all I can do, just to be close to you.
Every time that we meet, I skip a heartbeat.
Always up for a laugh, she's a pain in the ass.
Every time that we meet, I skip a heartbeat.

I do love, she does a heartbreak.
I did love, till she broke my heart.
I do love, she does a heartbreak.
I did love, till she broke my heart.
I do love, she does a heartbreak.
I did love, till she broke my heart.
I do love, she does a heartbreak.
I did love, till she broke my heart.

Doing all I can do, just to be close to you.
Every time that we meet, I skip a heartbeat.

Some older Bears may be able to help but does anyone remember Tynecasltle in either the late 80's/early 90's when we all sang "you've lost that loving feeling" at Half time? I was pretty young at the time (maybe about 8 or 9) but I'll never forget that game, it was chucking it down with rain all day (in the days when Tynecastle was very uncovered!!) and the tannoy played it at half time. Its one of my funniest memories at a football match.

I feel a right party spoiler but don`t see any reason to "adopt" catchy songs with no Rangers connection. I grew up hearing protestant songs all my life from my old man and any visiting orangemen or bandsmen staying with us for parades and am still in the dark to this having some connection?

Sing our songs, we have plenty, if anyone writes new ones with good Rangers lyrics get them sung too, but lets not take the "Doe a deer" road.

The link to the bobby parkes version playing the sash in the middle is better.

You are joking?

Is there a loyalist singer about who can actually play an instrument instead of pressing a button on a keyboard?

This song is outrageously tacky, but hey if you can't sing the Billy Boys (which was a real anthem), let's have a bit of Roy Orbison:blink:

Great i am pleased because we need to confuse the beggars and this is the type of rousing tune to do it. I wrote to Bowie and Rangers get the letters in now and lets get it sung.

Would love to confuse them bu singing the Billy Boys and changing one word but doubt we could get all of the Rangers support to fully comply so safer to confuse the beggars with penny arcade.;)

A light shown in the night some way ahead, blue turned into green then it was red
And stirring the night love music played the light I saw in the night was a penny arcade

Hey step up and play each machine seemed to say,as I walked round and round the penny arcade

YNWA is a message to the club from the fans.

Penny Arcade is a third rate Karaoke song that many wouldn't listen to if someone hadn't said other Rangers fans were singing it.

Be honest here - if sellik fans started singing it first then 99% on here would laugh and the standard reply would be "it's pish."

Sorry but I don't see the attraction here!

I'd prefer to see us adapt a really great song for our own.

Think it would be great to come up with a set of words to sing to the instrumental bit of Nessun Dorma the Italia 90 tune. Now that would be stirring.
