View Full Version : One aspect of Waghorns game infuriates me...

Every single simple pass no matter how short or easy it is has to be a flick like he is playing in the 1970 Brazilian team.

I have lost count of how many times he tries the outside of the boot lay off and simply can't do it. It's utterly infuriating seeing a guy who isn't a world beater but could be one of our better/more effective players if he just stuck to the basics.

Doesn't look like a footballer this season. More like a keen gym goer dropped into a proper team. Very very sluggish.

I'd agree one aspect.

That he's even in the stadium, that annoys me.

He thinks he's better than he is.

Agreed. Which takes me to a completely random point about my newly formed 11s team.

We are pish but we have two players battling for right back slot. One (the better player) thinks he is maldini reincarnated while the other is a lot less confident, needs talked to throughout the game and to an extent has little positional sense. BUT we have decided he plays as he fundamentally understands his limitations and his level of ability as a player and plays within it. The other guy won't hear a word of advice from anyone and thinks he is the dog bolloks so he sits on the bench.

Staying so narrow and playing as a striker when he's supposed to be wide right is what angers me the most. Would rather MOH played purely for his width, and that's saying something!!

Like Tavernier, he looked a player when we were giving the diddy teams a beating last year. Although the Scottish Premiership is only a sniff away from, say, the quality of the Cypriot Conference South it does have better diddy teams than we faced last year. In short, Wags and Tav have been found out this season and they are playing at a level of football above their ability (as hard as that may be for them to confront.)

He's all left foot, no confidence on his right hand side. Opposition players are wise to it.

I was whinging away about this some months ago, after he had squandered two outstanding chances because he had to take the ball back onto his left peg when an easy shot at goal was on with his right, if he had one.

As you say, he's so easy to defend as everyone knows he will always move the ball left.

He never ever tries to get to a pass thats short, if its long or to his feet he is interested but if its short he stands still and lets the defending player have it instead of making something out of it. No heart ir desire for Rangers at the moment by the looks of it.

potnryan_2
20-02-2017, 07:33
I like him, he is a striker though, not a wide man. If he was playing in a team with confidence he would be a star, the amount of chances he creates for himself or gets into the positions to score is better than any other forward at the club, just a pity he can't convert more chances

His level is the 2nd tier of Scottish football.

Poor first touch, lacks composure, very little awareness, one footed, no fight what so ever. Needs to learn to do the basics right before he tries all the flicks and drag backs that result in him surrendering possession.

Göteborg-Rangers
20-02-2017, 08:12
He tries one twos like you used to do in the playground.

Flick it with the outside of your foot and spin round - he doesn't even look to see if the one two is on.

MOH. tends to wander into the middle of the park as well and crowds out other players, our problem is that we don't seem to have a plan.As players run all iki

I think he looks as if he's not even trying sometimes and has a bad attitude. Maybe that's why he couldn't get in the starting lineup under Warburton.

His private extra training should all be done using his right foot as he is so easy to read, always turning to suit his left.

Lower league journeyman of limited ability. The type of player crippling our club currently and there's plenty of them.

Several of our players adopt this method of passing e.g. Tav, aforementioned Waghorn, McKay, Halliday from time to time. Have a look again at Sunday, if you can bear it, and see how many times the ball is bobbled to a team mate as opposed to passed. And the passes invariably lack pace and are in line with or worse, behind, the team mate.

Agree about MOH.

I still feel there could be a player made out of him if he was properly managed. McCann was pointing out in his punditry that MOH always wants to run inside, when there is space to hit the touch line and throw in a cross. He crowds the box by doing that and allows defenders to get back in tight with each other, instead of stretching their defence by pulling them wide.

Anyway, I'd play MOH and coach and manage him before playing Waghorn. That's the truth. I don't rate Waghorn at all.

When it looked like subs were being made on Sunday I said to my daughter in law surely Dodoo for Waghorn. Well I got that one wrong and gave me an indication that maybe Murty was not going to be the answer even in the short term. Waghorn was absolute gash.

We always play to feet, never in front of a player. Probably because none of them can be arsed running. No wonder our play is so static and slow.
