I'd never heard of Jim Rodriguez before this tournament and I thought Germany would never have a better keeper than Kahn but Neuer has been phenomenal as a keeper and a defender. Who is your stand outs?

Hendrixbear

Rodriguez, Hummels and even though I think he's a knob, Robben.

Rodriguez, Hummels and even though I think he's a knob, Robben.

Agreed. Kros, Muller, Mascherano have been good too. Messi has to win tomorrow to join the list. Some of the French were decent too

Muller and Rodriguez, Muller's fitness levels have been impressive and general play. Rodriguez who was unknown to me I think has been the top perfomer in the tournament.

I'm going for Rodriguez too but with Pirlo v England as performance of tournament.

Daley blind has impressed me greatly.performed impressively at left back, centre half and in centre mid.
A real chip off the old block
Mascherano has shown he is wasted in defence at barca

Muller and Robben have been my standouts.

If Messi puts in a performance tomorrow then he'll be added:D

Honourable mentions for Rodriguez, Neur and Mascherano too.

Might not be popular but I think Robben has looked the most dangerous player in the tourney

However Rodriquez, Kroos, Muller, Hummels, Neuer, Mascherano, Diaz (Costa Rica) Medel, Ochoa, Marquez and Navas, all performed well

Robben by far for me, never actually thought he was world class before this world cup

Sanchez and Rodriguez were good, but Lahm is a brilliant footballer.
Notable mention for schweinsteiger, I think that's how you spell it!

Ron Vlaar surely a move from Villa awaits he has been superb for the dutch helped by playing in a 3 man centre defence

Robben for me- a dislikable guy, but so dynamic as a player! On top of his game at the moment :)

Philip Lahm. Can play in several positions and never makes a mistake.

Rodriquez was excellent, as has been Muller, Robben. I also thought the Costa Rica goalie Navas was superb also.

robben without a doubt.

nobody, and i mean nobody can dive like this guy.

his ability to fall over when brushed by another player - and even when not - is totally unrivalled.

truly in a class of his own, and deserves to be recognised for it.

well done arjen :):):)

He'd be my top defender. I believe he has 1 year left on his current contract and it wouldn't surprise me if Van Gaal made a move for him as they need a centre half.

Philip Lahm. Can play in several positions and never makes a mistake.

Lahm is a good footballer wherever he is on the pitch. When he plays in his proper position he's the best in the world.

Robber has been the clear stand out for me. He's always giving 100% from the first minute the to last with attack after attack.

Despite the goals, I don't think Rodriguez can win it, due to being knocked out at the 1/4 finals stage.

Out of interest - is this voted for before or after the final?

Messi or Muller for me.

Rodriguez has been brilliant, have to confess to knowing little of him before.

Of the players that are well known, I'd have to say Arjen Robben. Muller has been awesome too. Can't believe he is only 24.

Neuer is by far the best keeper.

Leo Messi.

Had a great tournament and I think people will look past him because it's expected of him. But four important goals and created the best chance against Switzerland which lead to the winner.

WALLOPERXXX

The odds suggest Messi will win it. I got Mascherano at 25/1 on Tuesday. A goal tomorrow and a man of the match performance could see him winning it. Neuer has been amazing but the Argentinian keeper has had more clean sheets and no one has ever won it before by only reaching the quarter finals so that would rule Rodriquez out. Difficult one.

James Rodriguez was amazing! Robben Muller and Kroos were great aswell. Wee mention for the mexican centre half Moreno??? I'm sure that's his name. Performance of the tournament for me was Howard v Belgium

13-07-2014, 01:53
Messi has been good but stand out - has he really reached that this tournament? Guys like Neuer, Robben, Navas, Rodriguez and Muller have really stood out.

Messi has a change to shine tomorrow but there are a couple of Germans that can stand out as much.

PS. Although, I do agree perhaps Messi will get a harder time because normally it is expected of him. However, I suppose this is really the first time in a while he's been pretty good for Argentina.

For flair Robben easily the best.
It has been an exciting tournament rather than a great one IMO.

Lahm for me. He may not be a flair player but the man is awesome defensively and going forward

Ron Vlaar for me - an absolute colossus at the back for the Dutch

13-07-2014, 14:13
Bar the obvious choices already mentioned. Tim Howard was up there with goal keepers, Rojo and De Vrij as defenders, Pogba and Cuadrado in midfield, Benzema should have been top scorer and was impressive at times. The little French winger Valbuena and the Belgium attacker Origi were good and I hadn't seen much of either before the World Cup

Thomas Mueller. The guy is absolute quality and is a sheer winner. Hopefully that will be reflected tonight.

James Rodriguez had a fantastic tournament too. I hope he gets a move to Madrid.

Messi still has the opportunity to overshadow both tonight. I sincerely hope he doesn't but you could not begrudge him if he did.

Depends how you measure 'standout,' but there is a argument that Luis Suarez has overshadowed all other players in this World Cup. Started a Liverpool player, dominated early talk with his injury, came back to kill England with a phenomenal display, bit Chiellini, the few days of what will happen, the ban and the protracted move to Barcelona.

Robben and Muller have been superb. Though neither was a surprise.

James Rodriguez on the other hand, despite playing in Europe for Monaco, has come right out of the blue for me.

If I had to pick just one as the stand-out performer though - it would be Robben.

Outwith those correctly stated previously, Paul Pogba has looked (at times) like a man who will become one of the most dominant midfielders in the world over the next few years. Still some flaws but can't see anything but progression from him & he will be frighteningly good by next WC!

Fu.ck yes.

The words "Rolls Royce of a footballer" sums him up.

Got the lot.

It was one game but I think the kid for the USA, Yedlin has won himself a move to Europe with his performance against the Boring Bastard Belgians. He was outstanding.

The Belgians were dreadful. Got to say. If Hazard is a world class footballer I am the love child of Alfredo di Stefano.

I think there's a makings of a really top team in there but Wilmots was out of his depth as coach.

I also think the kid Origi is outrageously over rated to be perfectly honest.
